In 1984 George Orwell introduced Newspeak. This was an attempt to remove words from the language of which Big Brother did not approve. Words such as revolution. The theory being that if words did not exist then neither did the ideas behind them. The other rather silly part was to reduce the vocabulary anyway using good and ungood instead of good and bad. Not only were words removed but meanings were reduced.
Undesirable words were to be eliminated, new words were invented and the objective was that language became more precise rendering impure thoughts impossible as far as words control thought, there is a whole lengthy discussion involved there; I would like to pose the theory to Mr Jordan Peterson who could probably enlighten us. The example given in the book is the word free. In Newspeak there could be no politically or intellectually free, just the meaning of, for example, this field is free from weeds. Newspeak was designed to diminish the range of thought. What we are presently experiencing is the fear of opening your mouth. Either way the desired result is achieved. Reducing the range of thought will follow.
The persistent labelling of people as racist is designed to shut down any further discussion. Many people are now terrified of being called racist and have to think very carefully before saying anything in case it be labelled with the R word. Some of us on the other hand ….. badge of pride and all that. In fact so successful was racist that it even came with its own card that looks rather like a credit card.
This was followed by various other -ists such as sexist, ageist and many others. Again they were all designed to shut down discussion but with less success than the perennial favourite – racist.
The left have also managed to shut down discussion by some very dubious means. The jazz hands nonsense was one of the earlier ones. I am sure you all remember nobody allowed to speak but had to use your hands instead. Old Harvey Smith would have had a suitable sign for them.
The offended among us, and that is a large body of people, always claim to be offended by something and therefore it must not be mentioned. Such people have been referred to as offendotrons and that is as good a label as any. From my point of view, I am offended by offendotrons but my point of view is ignored.
The label woke has been applied to much of this boll-, oops, sorry round objects. If you ever accuse a lefty of being woke their automatic reply is define woke. It is very tempting to reply with the see you next Tuesday word. We all know what woke is when we see or hear it, why do they need help to know what it is. Essentially it is their entire belief system as personified by Jobby, James O’Brien on LBC if that is any help to you. Only a puffin with an iron constitution could stand hearing him for more than a few seconds. I like to believe the he suffers for his pathetic opinions (he always looks constipated), his echo chamber is centred on Islington though I am not sure if he lives there.
As an aside I did a delivery in Islington once and mentioned in passing to the customer that I was happy I was seldom there because it was full of politicians whom I would love to hurl abuse at. The lady gave a wry smile and from that I assume that I was not the only one with a very low opinion of the average Islingtonian. In fact I believe at least one puffin lives there. I do not include the infamous Jeremy Corbyn in my diatribe against many things in Islington. He wears his heart on his sleeve and says what he means, that is a welcome contrast to many others. Love him or loathe him, he doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what he is. I can respect that.
I remember another delivery in North London, remember I had driven up from Coulsdon. It was lashing down. It was at a new house in St John’s Wood and the customer had a small kind of roof overhanging their front door (must have been mega rich to live there). The closest I could get was to stand in what was a waterfall cascading down from this little roof and stand I had to. The punter was nice and dry in their front door and I took as long as I could to get the delivery to them hoping their stuff would be waterlogged. They could have let me to stand in the front door but no, an oik such as me was never going to darken their threshold. The kind of people you would only ever meet on a Tuesday and it’s not that far from Islington.
We have now reached the stage where Keith and his merry men want anyone who disagrees with their point of view locked up. We were all under the illusion that judicial independence meant exactly that, well it has been obvious for at least half a century that some trials and sentences were influenced by politicians but nothing like we see now. The sentencing of people involved in the riots has been fast tracked and draconian and that includes people who committed no offence other than just being there. It is one thing locking up people for violent behaviour, it is quite another when mere bystanders also get banged up.
There is a youngish looking judge who has been involved in many of these cases, he has been fond of non custodial sentences for nonces, I wonder what hold the former DPP has over him or is he just another crazed Marxist like the current Prime Minister. Speaking from a personal perspective, I don’t like the look of him. Those wigs and cravats can hide many a sin.
Pixie Cooper-Balls has decided that “extreme misogyny” is to be treated as terrorism under new plans. Who decides what is extreme and will it apply to the religion of peace ? Come to that, what about extreme misandry, many feminists would get banged up for that but there is no hint it will be treated the same. These are yet further attempts to shut people up. She has also decided that all of those accused of rioting of the far right variety are criminals before they have even been tried. They really are pushing their luck. Isn’t that the Napoleonic Code that is used in most of mainland Europe, guilty until proven innocent ?
I am reminded of Queen Victoria refusing to outlaw female homosexuality because she could not understand what lesbians could do to each other. Form an orderly queue at the back there !
In yet another overflowing prisons message, magistrates have been ordered to stop sending convicted criminals to prison until at least September 10th and that will probably be extended. I bet this does not apply to those tweeting hurt things or anyone near one of the far right riots. They really are taking the Mickey.
The final example of NewSpeak is the Labour government reneging on many of its pre election promises and then pretending they never promised anything of the kind. Their other way out of this is they totally ignore it. This does make a change because usually the left lies through its collective teeth day and night. The most obvious example is energy processing. We were promised a reduction because of the alleged efficiency of renewable generation. It turns out prices are going up again. Once they have increased by 5 or 6 times, there will be a tiny reduction and this will be hailed as a magnificent achievement for windmills. The price will then resume its upward journey.
