It has long been held that the television is the idiot box in the corner. It dumbs people down but why is that.
Programmes hit you non stop from the one eyed monster without respite. You get no chance to react to anything, a continuous stream of what might be called information overcomes your senses but is more often than not pure propaganda. You don’t really get a chance to reflect on anything. It really is the perfect brainwashing technique.
Of course you could record it and replay at your leisure with plenty of pauses and this also applies to videos on YT, TikTok or X but how many of us do that. There is always something more titillating waiting in the wings, steady at the back you one handed keyboard warriors.
Now GP’s motto is “nobody reads the comments” but of course we all do even if some of us don’t like to talk about it. This is where the joy of reading becomes apparent. You read at your own pace, react immediately to some of the more outlandish statements, re-read what you query and are able to form a much more reasoned opinion of what has just passed before your eyes.
This is why any posts including a twitter/X link should have at least a hint of what it contains. One of the joys of this type of comment is that the associated video is short and usually to the point. That means you are able to digest what has been said and then think about it.
There are also some other what could be called social media sites, one such is the old rumour mill, where much content is just links to videos with little additional description. I find this a very lazy way of helping people to find the truth as they see it.
I am in favour of mostly written content with limited short videos to accompany where they can improve the narrative. The revolting lefties live and die by soundbites. This requires little or no thought so long as it sounds good and makes you feel virtuous. “The science is settled” has to be one of the most ridiculous soundbites out there. Galileo Galilei and a few others must be rotating so fast in their final resting places.
It is no surprise that so much Hollywood, a left wing cesspit, output has become a means to enable social engineering. This mechanism is also used by so many so-called “influencers”. The biggest puzzle issue whom do they influence. We all know they only write their drivel because they are paid to.
I fear the ubiquity of TV has led to a dumbing down of the populace. The people should be forced to read the bloody comments whether they want to or not !
We should take a leaf from the 47th President’s posts and they are almost exclusively written though he does overdo the capitalisation on occasion.
