Well we reach the end of our squint at the misdemeanours of our elected representatives of the socialist persuasion. This is far from an exhaustive list or there would have been hundreds of names. I tried to stick to those who had been suspended for one reason or another with a sprinkling of others to keep us amused.
Under normal circumstances I have nothing good to say about the Labour Party and still don’t but it is worth pointing out that all parties have more than enough examples that could be used to make a list per party and maybe I will. I used to think that people entered parliament in order to improve things for their fellow citizens and were corrupted by the system, especially the party system. Seeing as many of them were local councillors before making the leap to the big time that theory is harder and harder to justify. My opinion now is veering to the theory that politics attracts greedy spivs and chancers. Perhaps that is the norm for many people now.
Perceived wisdom used to be that Tory shenanigans were often sexual in nature and Labour ones were primarily of a financial nature. This list of what Labour MPs have got up to encompasses all shades of dodgy dealing.
The expenses scandal lasted quite a while at the time but obviously was overtaken by other events. I remain convinced they are still fiddling them like there is no tomorrow. Who can forget the blustering and the outrage that people might discover their addresses. This was purely down to covering up where they were claiming their second home was and it was often not where it ought to have been.
The other area worth a dig is the party donations fiasco. They claim to have eradicated overseas donations as if all national donations are above board. You only have to look at that Dale Vince shyster. Bungs the Labour Party a few million and gets a hundred million back in the way of contracts. He is far from alone. You have to wonder what they do with all the money they get and I also feel that election campaigns do not have quite the influence our politicians claim they do. We didn’t get our message across usually means we got rumbled and the electorate are having none of it.
My last beef is that these people are responsible for setting the rates of tax that we all pay. If paying taxes is so good and uplifting why then do they all either exempt themselves or try to avoid paying them.
As we are seeing in the USA, governments handouts to NGOs are being abused to excess. Why would it be any different here but who is going to discover what these abuses are. We don’t have a DOGE here and I am sure both the MPs and the civil serpents would fight tooth and nail against it.
The House of Shame is riddled with corruption from top to bottom. It was easier for Hercules to clean the Augean stables, perhaps we could divert the Thames through the Houses of Parliament.
