I was studying the election results and looking particularly at the proportion of votes attained by each party.
I note that UKIP is holed below the waterline and that despite Reform gaining more votes than the Liberal Democrats they only had five seats compared to 42.
All the other minor parties are irrelevant. I recall in 2017 attending the launch, at the Union Jack Club, of the Veteran’s Party. That fizzled out within a few years.
I am no advocate of proportional representation – although the theory is great the practice does not solve the problem
What then to do? I favour the Swiss Model – but will the PTB ever allow it to gain traction – Aye, there’s the rub!
After the election I emailed the Reform Party offering my services as a local branch co-ordinator, and so far have not had a response. I have been so busy that I have not been able to chase it up.
It would be nice to think that Reform could play a significant part in the future of democracy in the UK – but the signs so far are not convincing me. Apart from anything I am wary of a moslem being involved in an anti-immigration party.
I am a racist – I support the British Race and am happy to declare that. I am, however, married to a moslem lady – (non bin bag) and we were living quite happily in Tunisia (cost of living low with very cheap rented accommodation). Then came the massacre of 30 tourists on the beach there and we decided to come to England,
It cost me a lot of time and a lot of money to ship her in legally – how do you think I feel when I see TPTB bringing them in by the boatload? I started work at 15 and still do some work – that is nearly 70 years of contributions in tax and NI.
We do have our disagreements, I gave up booze for 3 years (probably did my liver a world of good) and did not really miss the pork.
She has recently been snarky about me drinking whisky – I have told her she will not dictate to me in my own country what I can or cannot spend my money on and if she does not like it she can go back to where she came from. I don’t eat pork in the flat but do have the occasional bacon or sausage bap down the town.
It was my birthday yesterday and I am currently sipping Bushmills (Irish Roots!) as I write this.
We have some little sayings in the family which I often turn over in my mind. My father – RN CPO Chief Stoker I understand, used to make his weighty contribution:
‘It’s all kidology’
My 3 dear departed brothers :
Eldest (served as steward with Prescott on liners)
‘If nothing changes it will stay the same’
Brother 2 (Blacksmith HM Dockyard Portsmouth))
‘You gotta laugh’
Me:
Next year we’ll really get organised’
Youngest
‘Clever these Chinese’
There you have it – all the wisdom of the ages wrapped up and proffered for your guidance.
