Are we scraping the barrel yet, well not really. We are moving on and are at about 2023, still plenty of grist in the mill to deal with.
We turn our attention to Geraint Richard Davies. He was the MP for Croydon from 1997 to 2005 and then MP for Swansea West from 2010 to 2024. He contrived to get suspended in 2023 In a previous existence he was involved in Marketing, you know those really useful people. He started off as a councillor in Croydon representing New Addington. If Croydon were a body, New Addington would be its armpit or worse.
For the year 2004-2005 Geraint’s MP costs were the highest in the country. His version is that it shows what a hard working MP he was. He claimed for a central London flat only 12 miles from his constituency home, remember East Croydon to Victoria by train takes 15 minutes, and also claimed for taxis when he should not have done. He spent £38,759 on postage, again he was unrepentant, someone has to do the most work and I was proud it was me. In 2005 he lost to a Tory
In 2016 his Stickypedia entry was edited by someone from within Parliament. All references to his dodgy expenses were removed.
In 2021 it was revealed that Davies was one of 16 MPs who claimed expenses to cover a property while at the same time renting it out. What a naughty boy. He claimed £67k in four years from us, the taxpayer, so he could rent a home while collecting rental from another home he actually owned.
In 2023 he was suspended from the Labour Party when five women accused him of sexual harassment. It was alleged he had a reputation for excessive drinking, sexual comments and unwanted touching when near younger women. Sounds a bit like the BP bash but what would I know never having been there. Two of his colleagues mentioned that he had boasted about bringing sex workers into Parliament for drinks.
Within a few days two more complaints were received. In 2024 he announced he would step down having been an MP for 22 years.
