Labour’s bad boys – Part 8 Ron Davies

In 1998 poor old Ron Davies was held to ridicule. In 1983 he was elected to represent Caerphilly in the House of Shame.

He was appointed Secretary of State for Wales in Satan Blair’s cabinet in 1997. He has been credited as the architect of devolution though seeing the disastrous affect devolution has had on our nation I would keep quiet about that.

His demise came in September 1998 when he was mugged at knifepoint on Clapham Common, reputedly a well-known meeting place. He was mugged after agreeing to have a meal with a man he met while walking on the Common. Puffins will be disappointed to learn it was a Saturday rather than a Friday. In October he resigned as Secretary of State for Wales and described his mugging as a moment of madness, a phrase conjured up by that well known shyster Alkie Campbell. The full details have never been disclosed but it rather looks like he was rolled as sometimes happened to gays in those days.

He later admitted he was bisexual, many homosexuals make exactly that claim. He also claimed to be receiving treatment for a personality disorder. One of the symptoms of this alleged disorder was being attracted to risky situations. In 2001 he stood down from Parliament

Since 1999 he had also been a member of the Welsh Assembly also representing Caerphilly. Just before the 2003 elections The Sun reported that Ron had been visiting a well known gay cruising spot. When questioned by the hacks he initially denied it and then admitted he had but was watching badgers. The lies these people tell. He was then forced by his local party to stand down.

He has since had rather an unsuccessful career as a politician losing almost every seat he stood for and toying with the new Forward Wales Party and even Plaid Cymru. I for one do not miss him. It cannot be said enough but the House of Shame attracts many weirdos, a moment of madness and watching badgers, pull the other one.
