Phaasch, I feel your pain but also the joy. July 4th was the 54th anniversary of the loss of the first Mrs GG, the love of my life; we only had eight happy years together and I think about her everyday. Life can be a bitch but it is the good memories that keep us going.
As to being thrown out of pubs, I had the distinction of being thrown out of a Wetherspoons. I went to watch an Everton game and headed for my favourite spot. My eyes and my ears have deteriorated and there was a particular four seat table which was ideal for me.
There was a fellow sat in one chair facing the screen with his coat flung over the seat next to him. I asked, politely, if he would move his coat to one of the unused chairs so I could watch the match. He refused so I called the manager who came over but sided with the other customer! I had a half pint in my hand so hung around arguing the toss for a little while – no, I did not want to move elsewhere for the reasons explained.
Eventually the manager suggested I might like to find another pub; as I started to move to the door I said loudly to the other guy ‘Wanker’ and after the manager escorted me to the exit I used that famous line – ‘I’ve been thrown out of better places than this!’ Deep joy!
It was good to put some faces to names at The Bash and to be among like thinkers and well away from the normies.
No worries it2tta (a.k.a.WD 40); all Us Puffins have been there! Must have another chat sometime.
‘Tears of a Clown’ Reeves has thrown the spotlight upon the lack of talent, competence and the sheer stupidity of the labour front bench.
Sad to say the rest of the political class seem to be just as bad.
I have been trying to list politicians, journalists, commentators and others to whom I would entrust the welfare of our country and it’s institutions. So far :

- David Starkey
- Peter Thorpe
- Matt Goodwin

Agree/disagree. Additions/Deletions?
My thoughts have turned back to the dire state of the economy, the many threats that pepper the day; especially for those of us past the first flush of youth. Feel a bit like a mouse in a maze that has no exit – destined to be buggered around until doomsday.
One option I am starting to consider again is getting away from it all – as I tried with the small farm in France. It would have made an ideal smallholding, unfortunately Yer’ Man had neither vision nor drive so that scuppered that.
We grew quite a lot of fruit and vegetables and I was working on bringing in chickens and rabbits for meat and eggs., possibly lambs. We may be approaching a barter economy with a need to protect ourselves as best we can from the coming storm.
If anyone has a little land, or a suitable place to rent, either here or abroad and would like to kick ideas around I would be happy to meet. I would like my old bones to rest in peace, not pieces!
I am not a tax advisor but there is a handy guide published by Taxcafe.co.uk which covers the basics and explains current tax planning and other areas which is well worth a read.
From time to time I have an odd sensation (not filth!). Now and again, as soon as I go to bed – not sure whether it is just as I am dropping off, or in that period when the brain is relaxing I ‘see’ objects and people in 3D, appearing solid. I ‘see’ writing which is totally comprehensible, not written by me which is ‘projected’ onto walls or other surfaces.
It is an odd feeling, as though I am in another dimension. Mixing with people and objects I have no prior knowledge of. Maybe my brain is over active, don’t know. Anyone else have similar experiences?
Long time since I last flew commercially but I would not fly on a Boeing now. Not sure if a definite cause of the Air India crash has been fully ascertained, but no. Not for me. I have pushed my luck in the air too many times already.
In the throes of renewing my car insurance. Quote from Admiral, with whom I had been for one year, was about double. I have gone back to Liverpool Victoria – still a large amount but has to be acceptable. I suppose we are all paying towards the cost of those new arrivals who have no insurance and, probably, no valid licence.
Was intrigued watching the colour video of post-war Germany to see F,W. Woolworth’s on a street in Hamberg. The whole documentary was sobering, what a waste of lives. The question keeps arising – was it worth it?
