Going Postal – Marching to Leave

Swiss Bob is going walkies having been accepted as a core marcher on the March to Leave.

June 23rd, 2016 was a historic victory of the people against the establishment. The Westminster elite have had over two years to implement Brexit, and instead have done everything in their power to prevent it. It is time to show MPs, civil servants and Brussels bureaucrats we will not sit by whilst they betray the referendum result. That’s why we are organising a core group of marchers, who will travel the length of the country from Sunderland to London, to stop the Brexit betrayal.

From Thursday this week I’ll be on my travels, to London by car, then Sunderland by train for a Saturday morning start walking from Sunderland to Hartlepool, a distance of 20.4 miles. If I make that it’s only 12.2 miles on Sunday to Middlesbrough, most of the days after that are around 15 miles, or so. Fingers crossed.

I’m going for a number of reasons, I support the cause, it’s probably the last big chance to demonstrate to the government the strength of feeling amongst those who voted to leave and it will also be a nice break, fresh air, sunshine, good exercise. Currently it is forecast to tip down in Sunderland on Saturday. I hope some of you will join me on route, see our March to Leave topic on the GP forum, the March to Leave site for more information and below for GP meet ups.

I hear some of you are unhappy with Nigel Farage’s participation. I wasn’t aware, had forgotten of his involvement as the Vice Chairman of Leave Means Leave, a cross party group. Personally I don’t see what difference it makes, as someone who knows him said “he can barely walk across a car park”. I don’t imagine he’ll be there other than at the beginning and the end, or see why it would stop anyone supporting those walking.

You can see all the details of the route here.

Thank you to those who have already indicated they will be there, it should be fun if the weather isn’t terrible. Each evening I will endeavour to meet up with any Postaliers who turn up for a drink, more a chance for you to meet each other as I’ll probably be dead to the world and slope off early. I have created a topic on the GP forum for Hartlepool here. You can create your own topics for additional evenings/locations and post links on the main site to invite other puffins. Meeting times will be around 8.00 pm. I will email you, or post on the forum the name of the pub the evening in question, likely the closest I can crawl to from where I’m staying.

Some of you have been kind enough to sponsor me, any contributions will be gratefully accepted. The first day I will be sporting an IoM flag with a puffin adorning the top of the flagpole in honour of Mr AWOL so I shouldn’t be hard to spot. I will of course need copious amounts of liquid. .  .

Posting will be light while I’m away, I’ll try to have a new post each morning and one in the evening which may be a diary of the day’s events. I’ll broadcast anything of interest on the GP YouTube channel.

Note for authors. Please see the author’s page and reread, it would be helpful to me while away to have to do as little as possible with your articles. If you don’t already have an author login and would like to then get in touch, doing your own is no harder than using MS Word.
