The myth of a country called Palestine and the lies of the left, Part One

The Region in the 9th to 7th centuries BC

The geographical area we now know as the state of Israel and the Gaza strip was long ruled over in ancient antiquity by either the Pharaohs of Egypt or the rulers of the Hittite kingdom that dominated in Asia Minor or modern Turkey.

The city of Kadesh (located in modern day southern Syria) long a flash point between the two civilisations was a constant source of warfare which means that for the vast majority of it’s history up to that point the Semitic peoples of the region had been ruled over by the Pharaohs.

Following the biblical account of the exodus the Jews are said to have left Egypt during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramesses II or great which would mean it occurred in the thirteenth century BC (note I do not use PC dating systems).

However, this is not what we are concerned with because we are trying to establish when the country of Palestine came into existence and I hope you forgive the brief digression to ancient Egypt, yet there is no state known as Palestine which is where this journey is heading to.

Israel

Now according to tradition (with no hard historical or archaeological facts) the kingdom of Israel is supposed to have been founded around 1050 BC. But the narrative of the bible does show us that various kings reigned over the territory for over a century until it split into a dual monarchy forming the territories of Israel (northern) and Judah (southern).

Conclusion: No state yet called Palestine.

Babylon

The Kingdom of Israel was finally conquered by the Assyrian Empire in 722 BC and annexed as a province, the Kingdom of Judah was conquered by the Neo-Babylonian Empire, again passing into extinction as a province, in 586 BC effectively ending any independent Jewish state thereafter for hundreds of years.

Conclusion: No state yet called Palestine.

Persians

When Babylon fell to the Persian Achaemenid Emperor Cyrus the Great in 539 BC, Judah became an administrative division or Satrapy within the Persian empire and again like over the previous two hundred years was not a free country.

Conclusion: No state yet called Palestine.

Alexander

This situation was to remain for over another two hundred years until Alexander the Third of Macedon (commonly referred to as the great) crossed the Hellespont and decided to conduct his own invasion of Asia. One of his campaigns brought him to the Land of Israel which is said to have been in the year 329 BC while he was on his way to conquering Egypt. Israel was added as a Satrapy to Alexander’s empire.

Conclusion: No state yet called Palestine.

Diadochi

Alexander was to reign for only six more years until he died unexpectedly at the age of thirty two, his Empire was to have passed onto his son Alexander IV and his brother Philip III, however the maneuverings of his former generals the Diadochi (Greek for successors) meant that both were murdered and control of the area known today as Israel and the Palestinian territories was up for conquest.

Over the next two hundred and fifty years the area would pass through the control of various Seleucid emperors or Ptolemaic kings as they vied for conquest and hegemony during the Hellenistic period. This would end in all due time as a new power was rising in the western Mediterranean which would change the course of history for hundreds of years.

Conclusion: No state yet called Palestine.

Rome

The Greeks and had long been a thorn in the side of the Roman republic as they had come to the rescue of the mainland Greek cities against the machinations and invasions of the successor kingdoms time and time again, however this was due to change in a big way. The Romans had destroyed most of the successor’s ability’s to wage war which mean’t that those kingdoms were in terminal decline.

Disturbed at the state of the Seleucid empire’s last remaining territories in Syria and Israel Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus annexed them both in 63 & 62 BC respectively incorporating them as Roman Provinces.

Conclusion: No state yet called Palestine.
