The Twenty Three Thousand

ISIS Jihadis

It came out in the summer, the figure for how many UK based jihadis the government are prepared to admit to. 23,000.

The figure includes the 3,000 who pose an imminent threat.

So little is known about these numbers; unsurprisingly, little journalistic work has been undertaken on the topic, while the government has ventured nothing.

Here are a few questions I have about the 23,000:

  • What proportion were born in the UK?
  • What proportion entered the UK under the asylum / refugee route?
  • What proportion entered the UK on a student visa?
  • What proportion entered the UK on a non-student visa?
  • What proportion entered the UK via chain migration?
  • What proportion have British citizenship?
  • What proportion have indefinite leave to remain?
  • Of those who have British citizenship what action has been taken to ensure they do not have the ability to sponsor the arrival of further immigrants?
  • Of those who have indefinite leave to remain what action has been taken to ensure they do not get British citizenship?
  • Of those who are not British citizens and who do not have indefinite leave to remain, what steps have been taken to ensure they are not granted indefinite leave to remain?
  • What steps have been taken to ensure they do not enter (or remain within) professions connected with education?
  • What steps have been taken to ensure that they do not have the ability to hold office in limited companies, registered charities, or similar- especially organisations concerned with ‘assisting’ refugees?

I would suggest that these questions, and the issues raised by the answers, are critical to public safety, national security, and the debate we should be having as a society about immigration.
