Around the country, throughout the year, if you look hard enough you will find an agricultural show.
These shows embody the true spirit of this green and pleasant land. They range from sheepdog trials through sheep and cattle shows to local produce sales.
This is some pictures and thoughts from my attendance at one local to me.
Wolsingham show has been running, in one form or another, for centuries. Indeed, it was mentioned in The Boldon Buke ( the equivalent of the Domesday Book) that a gathering took place on the site as early as 1183. However, the show in its current form is only 238 years old, still making it one of the oldest running agricultural shows.
This year saw the largest attendance figures with Saturday being the best attended, aided by some beautiful sunshine and mild breezes.
At these shows you will find that the true spirit of Britishness is not buried deep but is proudly displayed for all to see. I recommend that you search in your local area and find one to attend, you will have a great day out, will learn something and will come to appreciate our way of life.
